To be Bride: Indian citizen residing in Toronto, Canada. To be Groom: Indian citizen residing in San Francisco, US Objective: To obtain the legal marriage certificate with the engagement ceremony in February 2020. Both bride and groom in India for 10 working days. We cannot do the gurudwara wedding twice and want to do it once only in November 2020 after getting the H4 EAD for the to be a bride so that she can then immediately move to the US and start working. We both are Sikhs. Questions: We want to achieve the above objective of obtaining the legal marriage certificate for starting to be bride's visa process to move to the US. Our families would arrange for an engagement ceremony. What would be the best way to get this done? Understand that we can go via the Special Marriage Act but, Will this be valid for obtaining to be bride's H4 visa? We both are Sikhs, do we only need to go via the Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act would work just fine? Understand that one party has to stay in India for 30 days under this Act? Is there a workaround? To be bride is working in Canada and to be groom is in the US and doing 30 days in India isn't feasible for either. Both their families reside in Gurugram, Haryana. Understand that a 30 day notice period has to be given in person? Is there a workaround? Again, we would like to come to India for 10 working days in February and do the engagement ceremony and get the legal marriage certificate (Required for H4 visa stamping for which the to be bride will take the appointment in Canada)

You need to consult a lawyer about a quicker way of marriage registration, as it will take 30 days at least to obtain the marriage registration certificate in India.
