Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment after the court convicted him in Fodder scam case. Lalu Prasad was held guilty by the special CBI court in Ranchi for his involvement in Rs. 3.13 crore Dumka Treasury case. Dumka case is the fourth of the five fodder scams which Lalu Prasad is accused of. Lalu Prasad got sentenced to 2 terms of 7 years imprisonment, which was later clarified by the CBI court, would be served consecutively.

Jagannath Mishra, another former Chief Minister of Bihar and 29 other people out of which several people are former IAS officers and animal husbandry officials were also accused in the fodder scam case. However, Mishra was not held guilty in the case.

On the other hand, Lalu Prasad has been sentenced to imprisonment terms in 3 other fodder cases. The present case is regarding a fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 3.13 crore from the treasury of Dumka, Jharkhand. Dumka was previously a part of Bihar when Lalu was the Chief Minister.

A total of 14 people have been convicted for their involvement in the fodder scam case, the infamous 21-year-old case. The case relates to the large-scale embezzlement of government funds done through a presentation of fake bills for payments that were never made.

The scam took its notorious name from the fact that it was rooted in the Animal and Husbandry department of Bihar government and the fraudulent transactions were made in the name of procuring cattle feed over a period of 20 years under successive regimes.
