Aadhaar hearing commences; Shyam Divan argues for the petitioners

The hearing in the Supreme Court on the challenge to the Aadhaar scheme has begun today.

Senior Advocate Shyam Divan, appearing for the petitioners, has commenced his arguments before the Constitution Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices AK Sikri, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan.

Shyam Divan argued that the way in which the programme is structured allows information to fall into the hands of private parties and there is a clear electronic trail. Secondly, the electronic trail enables identification of location also.
