The counsel of the scribe's widow Asha Ranjan alleged before a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra that the photograph was evidence of the alleged killer, Mohd Kaif, getting protection of powerful politicians and that she and her children were fearing for their lives as the accused is on bail. The bench asked additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta, who appeared for CBI, to study the reports and asked to take instructions on this issue and apprise the court about it.
