While Sood was granted bail in the case, Palande and his two associates remain in judicial custody. In June this year, the Bombay High Court upheld Palande’s life imprisonment for the murder of Das.

THE TRIAL in the murder of senior citizen Arun Tikku, father of small-time Bollywood actor Anuj Tikku, commenced before a sessions court on Wednesday. Tikku was allegedly murdered in his Oshiwara flat by accused Dhananjay Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh in 2012. The police had subsequently arrested Vijay Palande, claiming that he was behind the entire murder conspiracy along with his associate, model Simran Sood.

On Wednesday, the first witness in the case was examined by special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. He examined a police constable, who had received a message about a suspicious incident having taken place in an apartment in Oshiwara, Andheri.

Palande was convicted in 2002 of a murdering Swaraj Ranjan Das but had managed to escape after he was granted parole a year later.

He was arrested for the murder of Tikku in 2012. He has also since been booked for the murder of an aspiring film producer, Karan Kakkad.
