NEW DELHI: Three former students of O P Jindal Global University , who were convicted for blackmailing and gangraping their college mate , were sent back to jail by the Supreme Court which stayed Punjab and Haryana High Court order granting them bail about two moths back.

Agreeing to hear a plea filed by victim's family challenging High Court verdict, a bench of Justices S A Bobde and M M Shantanagouda r stayed the operation of HC order and issued notice to the convicts and Haryana government. "

Until further orders, there shall be stay of impugned judgment(s) and order(s) passed by the High Court," it said.In an unusual order, the HC court had granted bail to three convicts Hardik Sikri, Karan Chabra and Vikas Garg- and observed that victim's statement offered an alternate conclusion of " misadventure stemming from a promiscuous attitude and a voyeuristic mind". It had ordered counselling of the trio at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) "for correcting their behavioural aberration ".

" The testimony of the victim does offer an alternate story of casual relationship with her friends, acquaintances, adventurism and experimentation in sexual encounters and these factors would therefore, offer a compelling reasons to consider the prayer for suspension of sentence favourably particularly when the accused themselves are young and the narrative does not throw up gut wrenching violence, that normally precede or accompany such incidents ," the HC had said.
