3. A woman sued a nightclub
Kara Walton of Claymont wanted to enter a nightclub through its toilet window so she would not have to pay the $3.5 entrance fee. As a result, she fell down the floor and knocked out her two front teeth. In the end, the woman was awarded $12,000 and got all her dental expenses paid.

5. Lawyer sues a Casino for causing her gambling addiction
In 2008, a lawyer, Arelia Taveras filed a $20 million suit against casinos that she gambled at, stating that it was the casinos’ fault that she got obsessed to gambling and her career was ruined. She claimed that her life was completely ruined and that she often leaves eating and sleeping in the name of gambling. She gambled away all her money, her apartment, her family home, and was $58,000 in debt. The judge rejected Taveras’s request to create a duty somewhat like that.
In 1994, a woman sued McDonald’s after she spilt a cup of coffee on herself, leading to pretty serious injuries requiring skin grafts. She eventually received $2.9 million, which was reduced to $640,000, and now a lot of our coffee cups carry a warning that the beverage is hot.
In the 1880s, the Port of New York was taxing tomatoes as vegetables. The Nix family, who imported lots of tomatoes, sued to get back all the taxes they’d paid. They had the objective definition of “fruit” on their side, or so they thought. The Court sided with Edward Hedden, the Collector of the Port of New York, declaring that tomatoes are vegetables. So the law presumably included tomatoes under the “vegetable” umbrella.

She broke down and admitted that she had undergone extensive plastic surgery before she met him. Feeling betrayed, Feng divorced his wife and then successfully sued her for $120,000 in damages for marrying him under false information.
