How can an FIR be declared invalid?

Quashing the FIR is not an easy task. Court will not curtail the investigation of police and there are minimum chances to do the same,that is, if any civil proceedings are pending before any civil courts,and u will have to prove the complaint is given with malicious motive.Also u/s 482 of crpc, you can go directly to the High Court for quashing a FIR.
